The Berry Farms NZ Story

Established in 2016, Berry Farms NZ is a leading grower of Driscoll’s berries based in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand.

Currently Berry Farms NZ has two farms. Astill Farm is located in Hastings and the Bay View Farm is
located in Bay View which is north of Napier.

Berry Farms NZ is a strong advocate of innovative farming practises, and our premium strawberries,
raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries are grown in tunnels and in substrate, ensuring a
consistent supply with outstanding longevity and quality from early spring right through to late
autumn.

Berry Farms NZ (BFNZ) is part of the RD8 Fresh Produce Group, which is the parent company of RD8,
BFNZ, The Fresh Berry Company (FBC), and Hoddy’s Fruit Company.

The brainchild of RD8, owners Craig Hall and Dean Astill, Berry Farms NZ was born from a shared desire to focus on the berry category domestically and internationally and incorporate the global Driscoll’s brand and genetics. Berry Farms NZ was the result to ensure quality berries were produced for FBC.

Spearheaded by a specialist team of
agronomists and berry experts, and driven by an unwavering commitment to quality, we are a key part of making FBC become New Zealand’s leading berry marketing company.

Underpinned by the values of integrity, quality, innovation, and continuous improvement, we aim to grow our business through category management, season extension, and continually upgrading our offer using new and better varieties.

Environmental and Social Responsibility

We are committed to a sustainable future, and we do everything we can to ensure that
our farming practices are gentle on our natural environment and support local
communities.

At Berry Farms NZ, we define sustainability as “meeting our present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs”.

True sustainability is an ongoing journey, and we are committed to making continual progress towards waste reduction and improved care for the natural and social resources on which we depend.

Water Conservation

We are continually working on sustainable change in water usage.

We work with our suppliers, supply chain partners, and communities in which we operate to address the environmental risks to our business and our local communities.

Environmentally friendly packaging

Our blueberry packaging is made from recycled PET, and packaging for all our other berry varieties is fully recyclable.

Commitment to sustainable practices

All our farms are GLOBAL G.A.P. certified and dedicated to responsible and sustainable farming practices and ensuring the safe and sustainable production of the berries.

We care for our workers

All our farms GRASP certified, ensuring the ethical sourcing of labour.
